Synopsis[]
A prairie dog is reading the Legend Of The Night Howler to her kids as a bedtime story and shares about it’s howl and ability to spread an unstoppable itch. Coincidentally, the night howler itself is nearby and howls, while her children and the entire town start to itch. Bill and Jill record the sound and send it to CLADE HQ.
Sam is meditating while Kit finds her missing sock, startling Sam as she asks Sam about her sock. The CLADE crest then appears, and they go to Scratch's office. When they arrive, Kit sees that she is still holding her unpaired sock and hides it, but to no avail as Scratch asks about it, before giving the mission brief.
The duo arrive at the town and notice the prairie dogs resorting to extreme methods, including scratching against a cactus and using a pickaxe to scratch, and Kit realises that it is caused by fleas. She then takes out her grapefruit-scented flea powder and uses it to treat the prairie dogs, who then tell the agents about the night howler, performing a realistic-sounding howl. When Sam asks, the prairie dogs then inform them about a pack of nearby wolves.
While finding the wolves, Sam nearly steps onto Barb, who the strikes back with a offensive remark. Sam is defensive and gives an impolite comment back, while Kit shares about scorpions being neither able to catch fleas nor howl, which Barb is impressed with. Sam then suggests bringing Barb to safety, but she tells Sam that she does not need protection as she awakens in the night and has claws, as well as a tail to sting with. She then guides the agents to the wolve's meeting place, with Sam reluctant to follow her.
They wait for the wolves once they have arrived, but even the wolves are also itchy. Kit sprinkles some flea powder over them and they observe that their howl is different from the night howler's, as well as travelling in a pack instead of individually — like the night howler. A wolf notices that they heard the exact same howl before starting to itch, and they track it down and chase it.
They hear a howl coming from a cave. Barb decides to enter and sting it, but is thrown out as she notices that her venom has no effect on the howler. The night howler then chases and corners them. The trio enter a mineshaft and ride a minecart back to the town, with the night howler chasing them throughout. They then decide to set a trap, which Barb comments "needs bait". Sam uses his iSpy glove to replay the recording, with the night howler howling increasingly louder in response.
However, Barb gets stressed out and breaks Sam’s iSpy glove. Kit then realises that the prairie dogs had done a good impression of the howling, and Sam recruits and conducts them to howl while Kit and Barb set up a trap. As the prairie dogs howl, Kit realises that she has trapped something, and Barb cuts the rope to entrap the night howler.
The night howler is then revealed to be a grasshopper mouse, much to Kit's surprise. The grasshopper mouse constantly scratches itself and howls, before Kit lets him use the last bit of flea powder. He then comments that he was chasing them largely because of Kit’s flea powder, before it shares about its hidden talent of howling. The duo then close the Creature case.
Kit is reading the Legend Of The Night Howler while Sam searches for Kit’s sock. He finds it and startles Kit, before both laugh it off.
